If you've read the previous post you've heard the saga of the visa story that is dragging on. Funny enough the same day Keith called in to find out about the visa, we decided I would call to see about making my appointment to turn in all my paperwork for citizenship. We figured if we can get my citizenship going that would alleviate our need for a visa.
Apparently everyone was having a bad day at the consulate.
I call in and ask to speak to the citizenship department, they are in a meeting, so I had to call back between 2 and 3:30. At 2 I call back and stay on hold for a while, when the phone is finally picked up I can already tell by the tone of the lady's voice that this is not going to go well. I asked her about Form 3 of the Italian Citizenship paperwork which is called "Declaration of Living Italian Ascendant Born Outside of Italy". I proceed to let the lady know my mother was born IN Italy, she quickly cuts me off and says that my mother must fill out the form. I explain that the form is for those not born in Italy and the lady once again cuts me off and says the form must be filled out. We go back and forth a couple times until she finally tells me to cross off "Born Outside of Italy" and have her fill out the form. In disbelief I say o.k., and then ask if I can set up an appointment to turn in all of my paperwork for citizenship. I have to say I could hear the satisfaction in her voice when she informed me the first opening for appointments for citizenship would be in January 2006. In total shock I repeat January 2006 until she finally belts out, "If you were in Brazil you couldn't get an appointment until 2007!" I quietly inform her that this isn't Brazil, it's America, and no appointments until 2006? She tell me she has no idea what other consulates are doing but here NO APPOINTMENTS UNTIL 2006. Now I'm mad, she's being a complete bitch, and so I tell her maybe I'll just apply to a different consulate. Of course she says I can't, so then I ask her if I can apply in Italy. She says, "Well then you would have to live in Italy to apply in Italy" (she forgot to add you stupid idiot), and I tell her I will be living in Italy and I just hang up the phone which I really want to throw against the nearest wall.
What do I do? I called my Mamma. And now we are going to get the family involved because unfortunately it is about who you know in the right places. Let's hope we have someone somewhere that can help!
